VTV agreement
In the VTV agreement, the tariff partners Allianz deutscher Designer (AGD) e.V. and Selbstständige Designstudios (SDSt) e.V. have been regulating the appropriate compensation for design services provided by freelance designers since 1979.
The basis
In this form, it is a unique and therefore exemplary regulation for determining the appropriate remuneration for design services and serves as a guide for designers, clients and courts. It is negotiated and concluded between the Allianz deutscher Designer (AGD) e.V. and the Selbstständige Design Studios (SDSt) e.V. in accordance with the provisions of the German Collective Agreement Act (§ 12a TVG) and registered with the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the state labor ministries as a collective agreement.
The tariff partners
Since 1976, the Allianz deutscher Designer has been the voice of independent designers of all design disciplines, heard in business, politics, and society. Since its founding, it has been advocating for the interests of its members in particular and the design industry in general. It offers its members the benefits of a professional association in the field of design with the security of a collective agreement compared to the collectively bound SDSt.
The Self-Employed Design Studios (SDSt) e.V. is the association of independent, owner-managed design agencies in Germany. Founded in 1978 as SDSt, Selbstständige Designstudios e.V., it is now mainly supported by medium-sized agencies. The overarching goal of the SDSt is to increase awareness of the importance of creativity and design quality as cultural and economic factors in Germany. The SDSt has been a collective bargaining partner of the AGD since 1979.
Scope
The current valid VTV agreement was signed by both collective agreement parties on September 1, 2022. It fully takes into account the changing professional profile of designers and for the first time includes services from the areas of strategic and conceptual design as well as the operational design services that have always been included. The matrix for determining the remuneration for the granting of the necessary rights of use to the created design works has been completely revised and adjusted to the new framework conditions for design services, as have the minimum hourly rates. They amount to 120,- EUR net for strategic designs services, 105,- EUR net for conceptual and operational designs services.
